Dr. Owens is a psychologist licensed in Kansas and Missouri. She has been in private practice for twenty five years. After graduating from the University of Georgia and the University of Missouri Kansas City, she did her clinical training at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. While at Tulane Medical Center she trained at the Eating Disorder Unit, and later conducted research regarding disordered eating among women in the general population, and was a consultant to the Weight Management Clinic at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She has held positions as Assistant Professor of psychology in Georgia as well as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where for a number of years she served as the Director of the Counseling Center.
Dr Owens has a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and sees clients of all ages. She works with individuals and couples on issues such as depression, anxiety, parenting problems, marital issues, and general health concerns.. She is a speaker and consultant to area high schools, evaluates prospective candidates for bariatric surgery, and provides post surgical counseling to assist in weight management.
She is flexible in approach to therapy using a combination of techniques depending on the needs of the individual.
