Jane earned her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles. She completed her residency in family medicine at Santa Monica Hospital in Southern California and has taught and practiced medicine for over thirty years. She has also been trained in applying functional medicine in clinical practice through the Institute for Functional Medicine, and is currently one of the first Certified Practitioners in the region. She is also certified through the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) and the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine (ABIHM).
Dr. Murray served as Director of Education for the American Academy of Family Physicians from 1986 to 1991 and as Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at The University of Kansas Medical Center from 1991 to 1998 when she left to co-found Sastun. Jane continues to teach and speak widely to national audiences about the need to integrate conventional Western medicine with non-conventional approaches to health and illness. Her clinical areas of interest and expertise include:
Women’s Health, especially midlife hormonal issues; non-hormonal management and bioidentical hormone therapy
Functional Medicine – understanding the fundamental imbalances in cellular function that result in symptoms and manifestations of chronic disease, with an emphasis on restoring basic balance in the body using nutrition, lifestyle, stress management and medications if needed. A wide variety of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, migraines, autoimmune problems, arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression can be significantly improved using this functional medicine approach.
Stress Management and integration of mind-body-spirit in healing. There is no way to disconnect our experiences, feelings, thoughts and emotions from our physical condition. All health problems can benefit from an integration of understanding the effects of the mind on the body and vice versa.
