Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating non-judgmental awareness in day-to-day life by paying attention moment-to-moment as your life unfolds. With practice one can experience each moment, no matter how difficult or intense, with greater serenity and clarity.

MBSR complements the medical management of a wide variety of health challenges. People participate for reasons as varied as chronic pain, heart disease, cancer, headaches, anxiety and panic, GI distress, high blood pressure, asthma, stress, sleep or eating disturbances, fibromyalgia and substance abuse.

This course is based on the highly successful stress reduction program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. in 1979. This program has been featured on the PBS series Healing and the Mind, NBC’s Dateline and Oprah.  Mindfulness courses are offered in more than 250 mainstream hospitals and academic medical centers around the country including Harvard, Duke, Stanford and the Mayo Clinic.

Tuition: $495 includes two practice CD’s narrated by the instructor and a workbook. Tuition assistance is available for those who would otherwise be unable to participate. Please inquire.

When: Next course starts Saturday, June 2nd – Saturday, July 28th, 10am – noon. A daylong retreat will be held on Sunday, July 15th from 10am – 4pm. There will be no class on Saturday, July 7th.

  • Reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with pain that may not go away
  • Strengthened immune response
  • Increase in brain activity associated with positive mood states

Instructor: Lisa Pinsker, has completed training programs under the direction of Jon Kabat-Zinn, the creator of the program. Lisa holds a master’s degree in integrative health education and has worked in program development and administration as well as patient and clinical education for over two decades. Meditation is really about paying attention, and the only way in which we can pay attention is through our senses, all of them, including the mind. Mindfulness is a way of befriending ourselves and our experience. Of course, our experience is vast, and includes our own body, our mind, our heart and the entire world.
– Jon Kabat-Zinn
